10 Jul Making Tax Digital: What Construction Contractors Need to Know
At Marshall Recruitment, we are committed to supporting our contractors as well as connecting them with some of the best construction and facilities management opportunities across East Anglia. Based in Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds, we work closely with trusted clients and industry-leading payroll service providers to ensure our workers receive accurate, compliant, and reliable payroll support. As HMRC introduces Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, we want to help our self-employed contractors understand what the changes mean and how they can prepare.
Making Tax Digital is being introduced by HMRC in stages over the coming years and will affect many self-employed individuals, including both CIS and non-CIS sole traders. The new legislation requires eligible workers to keep digital records of their income and expenses and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software. The rollout begins in April 2026 for those with self-employed income exceeding £50,000, followed by April 2027 for those earning over £30,000, and April 2028 for those earning over £20,000.
While responsibility for complying with MTD ultimately rests with each individual, Marshall Recruitment works alongside some of the UK’s most respected payroll service providers to ensure our contractors receive clear, accurate payroll information throughout the year. Our payroll partners provide detailed remittances, including cumulative Year-to-Date and Quarter-to-Date totals, making it easier for contractors to keep digital records and access the information they may need when completing their quarterly MTD submissions.
As your recruitment partner, we’re here to support you throughout your assignment, but it’s important to remember that we cannot provide personal tax advice. If you have questions about your payroll or remittances, our team and payroll partners are always happy to help. For guidance on your individual tax position or Making Tax Digital obligations, we recommend speaking with a qualified accountant or contacting HMRC directly.
At Marshall Recruitment, we believe that supporting our workforce goes beyond finding the right job. By partnering with trusted payroll specialists and keeping our contractors informed about important legislative changes, we aim to make working with us as straightforward and stress-free as possible. If you’re looking for your next role in construction or facilities management across East Anglia, or have any questions about payroll support, our team is always here to help.
